Diary #6 - Daddy's guitar time

Hey! It's the first post from me, Paka. So, after Mixu got his bass tracking done, it was my turn. As Raikku said in the previous post, the session was much more controlled.

So, we got to the studio with Iiro, and started setting the gear up. I had my trusty ol' Kelly with me and Rhoads for the backup. Amplifierwise (<- is that a word?) I trusted my Framus Dragon head. The sound for me was a combination of the Dragon's crunch channel boosted with a Maxon OD-808. Little bit of EQ:ing and some compression, and the setup played through a cabinet loaded with Celestion's V30's really nailed the sound.

The session went by pretty painlessly, some songs needed just a one take and some needed a few more. I got the rhythm tracks done in the same day, and then we did some fill-ins and leads on the next.

Here's the video of me playing the guitar, and in case some of you doesn't know what motivational screaming means, the answer is in the video also. Peace out.

Studio Diary Part 5: Bass and Ass

Howdy! It's me, Roger "Hevi" Ravonen again writing in behalf of Miksu, who's currently too shitfaced to write. Soooo...

This was an interesting day alright; Miksu (aka Rauno Ratakisko) came in with a bag of booze, the 5 string bass which is used by Catamenia and the fattest motherf*cking strings you could find! That and some Big Muff distortion... damn! It all went actually REALLY smooth, not like you can see this on the vid, but yeah. Some went in with a single take, which was nice. Miksu proved to be a real powerful and solid bass player with a cold-headed attitude! But since he IS a bass player, he tends to be quite odd at times... most of the time really. And he shares the same tendency for drinking as other bass players.

Anyway... With a good work rate we managed to get most of the songs tracked that day. Only couple of songs were left for hangover.

EDITOR'S NOTE:

This time I actually went pretty much all the way on the thought of doing a sort of 'inverted' studio diary, so to speak. The idea being simply just excluding all the 'good' and 'formal' material and use only the 'backstage' material... the goofy shit. I think this reflects Miksu's personality in The Undivine. Next video, which is about Paka's gtr tracking will be more umm... controlled.

Diary #4 Online! Curpession!

Moi.

At a last minute call, a decision was made to do some BONGOS Sepultura Roots style. (Tähän väliin sellanen et IIRO ON PIERESKELEVÄ TONTTU!! LOL) So we gathered most of my percussion and started to figure out how it all would come together. We had a couple of idea's regarding to which songs the percs would fit the best. So without any stress or expectations (and that's the beauty of perc sessions) we started jamming and trying shit out! We were a little tired and hazy as you can see. It's a tough job eh??! I have to keep this description short 'cause Iiro is farting with my lady back there as I write hyi saatana..!!!

Stu-Stu-Studio Diary III: More cowbell!

Director's point of view:

This time it's short and sweet! Mainly 'cause I didn't have much material filmed that day and I've decided to keep these diaries in chronological order as well as not including more than one days stuff in it. Anyhow, this clip holds shots of me tracking World After Us(a), the ones which ended up as final takes. And I found a new button from my iMovie which I've never used before, the microphone button! And YES I had to try it right away so you'll find me babbling at the end of the diary! lollero! äxdee!

Drummer's point of view:

After digging in to the riffs in this song, I decided to go all the way where Miksu left off and play all the notes along with the gtr as Iiro had planned. The tom intro flew into my mind instantly when I first heard the song and was finalized during the day of recording as well as many other drum parts. The double bass beat after the intro was also modified to follow the gtrs by adding a few notes more. Also I added some 16th note triplet fills on to parts leading into another triplet feel riff from a straight skank beat, which in my opinion ties the two parts together more efficiently. Anal Kalsium!

Studio video, pt. 2 online! More tits 'n' ass!

Terve!

Well here it is, the sequel you've been waiting for! Not a lot of serious content in this one either. Nevertheless.. this is the 1st day of the drum session. Me and Iiro picked up the drs from my rehearsal lair and headed towards the studio with the set plus other necessary equipment needed for the recording. Some mics, a computer and a mixer we're borrowed to get the shit started. After all was assembled and soundchecked, we started making the click tracks before we got to the action. All went smoothly, (tits we're flying and smell of sweaty manboobs filled the air) we got a reasonable amount of songs tracked the first day, the rest was recorded the day after, but that's another video.

This here vid provides more insight to the saga of my manly booberinos, as we take you through a few of my moves in bullet time! The video is also crowned by Miksu's song about 'Kusisist Tontuist'. The next studio diary vid will probably about the next drum rec day or the perc day.. or both. We'll see (if we don't go blind).

Jam video + Roger's notes on the vids

Here's the first vid of our collaboration from one of the first rehearsals we did. A cute lil' jam vid with Paka, the bands ever so gentle father figure. <3

As for the other vids; since I'll handle the video making part of this diary, I thought I'd fill you in with few thoughts conserning the contents and the progress of the videos. Here we go..

The first diary vid consists mainly of the video demo footage. It was shot to quickly hear how the new line-up sounds, as a part of the pre-production for the album. Later on a demo of the songs on the debut was also made, you can hear parts of this as the intros/outros of the diary vids. AND since my rubbery manboobs has caused a lot of fuzz, the titties are also introduced in this video. ;)

The next couple of vids will include me tracking the drugs and curpessions.. I'm sorry drums and percussions and after that we'll move to other instruments, bass, gtrs and ukulele.

Enough said! Rekku kuittaa, imekää tärpättii!

The Undivine enters the studio

Debut time! Location for the session is the good ol' Kirkniemi Studio. We have also been pre-producing our debut album, and it starts to roll like a motherfucking moose in your backyard (WHAT!?!?). New songs were made during summertime and we were rehearsing a lot for the forthcoming gigs and studio. So... There will be some older brootal stuff in this record as well as the new killer ones!

The new line-up has taken it's place and we are ready to record a killer album for u to hear. Also don't forget to come and testify the Road Show Tour with our scottish brothers, Bonesaw!! Tour dates and venue infos can be found at theundivine.com. More updates coming soon so keep your eyes open! Enjoy the video ;)

The Undivine renews itself, new vocalist and drummer announced!

The Undivine - 2010
Jere Kilpinen (vox) and Ville Telen (bass) has left the band due to lack of time. The decision was made with no hard feelings and without further dramatics, so...

Jukka Pihlajaniemi (ex-Ghoul Patrol) was asked to handle the frontman duties. At the same time Mikko Nevanlahti found his inner flame and turned from a drummer to a badass bass player, leaving the drummer's seat open... for Rainer Tuomikanto (Amarantine, RUST). The new line-up enhances the brutal output of the band in every way and the stakes are again higher.

We are now booking shows and making new material as we speak. Also a wider scale recording session is imminent, but it will be properly announced as the timing is right.
